Following years of financial difficulties, decentralized, cross-chain trading protocol Linear Finance announced today that it will cease operations on March 27, 2025.
In the statement, it was stated that the decision to close was made because it had difficulty generating sustainable returns since the first launch.
Following the shutdown announcement, the protocol’s native token, LINA, also saw a steep decline. At this point, LINA has increased its weekly losses to almost 70%.
Binance’s decision to delist LINA was also effective in this decline in LINA. At this point, Binance announced that it would delist LINA as of March 28, 2025.
“After careful consideration, Linear Finance has made the difficult decision to cease operations. Despite our ongoing efforts to innovate and build over the years, the project has struggled to generate sustainable returns. Apart from a brief period of profitability during our initial launch in 2019/20, Linear Finance has faced increasing financial challenges. The project was funded through a combination of personal contributions from the project owner and token liquidations. Unfortunately, this model is no longer viable. Binance’s decision to delist the LINA token accelerated these challenges, resulting in a 65% drop in market value and a significant loss of remaining operational runway. As a result, key stakeholders of the project collectively decided to terminate the project and resigned from their positions. Our Operations Team will be in touch shortly with clear timelines and step-by-step instructions for users with active positions in our dApps. To our community, supporters, and partners — thank you for being a part of our journey. We deeply appreciate your belief in the Linear Finance vision and wish you every success in the future.”
The LINA price dropped by up to 40% following the announcement.
