Solana Foundation Issues Warning Against Malicious Verifiers, Implements Sanctions
The Solana Foundation has issued a critical statement warning that malicious verifiers will face sanctions for their actions. This decision comes in response to recent sandwich attacks targeting Solana users.
A group of validator operators has been removed from the authentication program by the Solana Foundation due to their involvement in these harmful attacks. Tim Garcia, Solana Validator Relations Lead, made the announcement on the Foundation’s Discord server, emphasizing that such behavior will not be tolerated.
The Foundation’s decision to remove these operators aims to protect retail users from falling victim to these malicious acts. Mert Mümtaz, co-founder of Solana RPC provider Helius, stressed the importance of this move in safeguarding users from exploitation.
Sandwich attacks, a form of front-running exploit, involve manipulating prices by placing two transactions around a victim’s transaction to profit from the price difference. These attacks go against the rules set by the Solana Foundation, as highlighted in Garcia’s Discord post on May 7.
Operators found engaging in malicious activities, such as participating in private Mempools for sandwich attacks, will be immediately removed from the program, with their shares from the Foundation revoked permanently. The Solana Foundation Delegation Program supports validators by delegating SOL tokens to them based on performance and adherence to good practices.
