ZKsync Association is set to make waves in the crypto world next week with a generous airdrop of 3.675 billion ZK tokens for the initial users and supporters of the Ethereum Layer 2 network.
ZKsync to Distribute 3.6 Billion Tokens to Early Participants
This significant airdrop represents 17.5% of the total supply of 21 billion ZK tokens. The tokens will be up for grabs starting next week, with a deadline for claiming set for January 3, 2025. Interested participants can begin submitting their requests from June 24 onwards.
Allocation and Distribution
Of the total token supply, 49.1% will be distributed through various ecosystem initiatives, 17.2% will go to investors, and 16.1% will be allocated to the Matter Labs team.
According to the ZKsync Association, “Providing more tokens in the airdrop than those allocated to the Matter Labs team and investors is more than just a symbolic gesture for the community. When the ZKsync governance system launches in the coming weeks, the community will have a significant supply of liquid tokens to drive protocol governance upgrades.”
Eligibility and Distribution
A total of 695,232 wallets have been listed for the airdrop based on a snapshot taken on March 24, 2024. The airdrop will be divided into two categories: users (89%) and contributors (11%). Users are those who meet specific activity thresholds on ZKsync, while contributors include developers, researchers, and community members actively supporting the ecosystem.
Further Allocations
The remaining community allocation will be overseen by the ZKsync Foundation and distributed gradually over time through ecosystem initiatives and the ZK Nation governance process. Certain experimental communities engaging in activities on decentralized social networks and NFT projects will receive a slightly lower allocation of the supply.
Token Vesting and Locking
Tokens allocated to investors and the Matter Labs team will be locked for the first year and gradually unlocked over the subsequent three years, from June 2025 to June 2028.
