Experts Issue Warning: Take This Weekly Step to Prevent Cryptocurrency Theft from Your Mobile Device
In a recent advisory, cybersecurity firm Dilation Effect has recommended that cryptocurrency investors reboot their mobile phones once a week. This simple action can potentially disrupt hackers’ activities and make their attacks more noticeable to victims.
The US National Security Agency (NSA) has also issued a security alert advising users to reboot their mobile phones once a week. But what does this seemingly small action actually do to prevent attacks? Dilation Effect has published an analysis.
According to Dilation Effect, restarting your phone on a weekly basis is a necessary step and users are urged to make it a habit. This is because attacks on mobile phones typically occur through text messages or browsers. If a phone is successfully hacked and a Trojan is implanted, rebooting the device can disrupt the Trojan’s activities.
After the phone reboots, if the Trojan wants to remain active, the hacker must either exploit a vulnerability in the mobile phone system’s secure boot or re-run the attack code. If the attacker needs to re-run the attack, this may be detected by the victim.
Therefore, after the phone reboots, if there is no secure boot vulnerability, the hacker would have to re-run the malicious app in order to attack the user. Experts state that secure boot vulnerabilities are very rare, so it is wise to reboot your phone after using it for a while.
In addition to the weekly reboot, Dilation Effect also advises iPhone users to permanently disable iMessage functionality. This can potentially provide an additional layer of security and further protect users from potential threats.
